The SDA has appealed against a Fair Work Australia full bench to allow 90-minute after-school shifts for school students.

SDA National Secretary, Joe de Bruyn, said in a statement that the appeal to the Federal Court wasn’t about taking shifts away from secondary school students. Joe’s statement read:

“What we are appealing against is the chipping away of a fundamental entitlement for all workers, regardless of age, to be guaranteed three hours of pay for the time and cost of travelling to and from work.

The short shifts for students were part of a campaign by employers to reduce the minimum engagement for casuals from three to two hours”.
