One of the most important issues for members is their need to work in an environment that is both safe and healthy.

SDA members have the right to go to work, enjoy a decent wage and good working conditions and return home at the end of their shift safe and sound. The SDA also understands that members, through no fault of their own, get injured on the job every day of the week. Therefore, the  SDA has invested huge financial resources into the important areas of Occupational Health and Safety and Workers’ Compensation for over 30 years.

Matt Littleboy is the SDA’s workplace Health and Safety Officer. Matt is an experienced SDA official and fully understands the importance of health and safety in SDA workplaces.

The SDA offers a wide range of WH&S services which include:

• Occupational Health and Safety training for Workplace Health and Safety Representatives;
• Workplace inspections by the SDA health and safety officer;
• On-site health and safety monitoring;
• Immediate access to health and safety advice;
• Immediate access to WorkCover advice;
• Constant lobbying to State and Federal Governments to improve Occupational Health and Safety laws throughout Australia;
• Constant lobbying to State Government to improve Queensland’s workers’ compensation laws and entitlements;
• Free workers’ compensation legal advice for SDA members from the first consultation through to the appeal process (The SDA is the only union in Queensland which offers this comprehensive service to members and this service alone can save individual members upwards of $10,000).
