Woolies BLDC – What Happened?
Yesterday the SDA had paid meetings onsite at the BLDC. The meetings were well attended and SDA membership onsite continues to grow as the negotiations progress!
The SDA doesn’t tell it’s members what to do or what to think – we were there to ask “WHAT DO YOU NEED? WHAT DO YOU WANT?”
Everyone at the meetings were shown the company’s latest offer and for the most part people were comfortable with the content with one exception! THE PAY RISE.
The SDA gave everyone the arguments both for against accepting the company’s offer. The company has offered 2.6% per year for the first 2 years and then 2.7% for each for the next 2 years.
And then we asked WHAT DO YOU THINK THE PAY RISE SHOULD BE? WHAT PAY RISE WOULD GET YOUR YES VOTE?
And the members said IT MUST BE AROUND 3.5% or higher!
2.6% and 2.7% IS NOT FAIR COMPENSATION FOR YOUR HARD WORK!
2.6% and 2.7% IS NOT FAIR WHEN YOUR COMPANY IS MAKING PROFITS IN THE BILLIONS!
The company needs to get real and come to the table with the offer of a decent pay increase.
We are hoping to meet with the company tomorrow where we will deliver the members message and let the company know they will not get agreement with 2.6% and 2.7%.
