SDA SUBMISSION ON WORKERS COMPENSATION REVIEW

By Chris Gazenbeek, State Secretary

Every five years, the State Workplace Relations Minister conducts a review of the operation of the workers’ compensation scheme.

Given that the SDA is a key stakeholder, we were invited to provide comment on the operation of the scheme under the direction of the independent reviewer, Professor David Peetz.

Every SDA member has the right to a healthy and safe workplace. The SDA takes its responsibilities very seriously in all matters in regard to Workers’ compensation so much so that we submitted a 53 page submission to Professor Peetz’s Review.

Quite clearly there are problems with workers’ compensation self-insurers and this must stop.

I personally took Sam Sciacca from Optimum Legal who is our workers’ compensation legal expert and met with Professor Peetz for an hour. We provided our written submission on 3 April and had a round table discussion on 17 April with key stakeholders.

Members will be advised on the findings of this important Review.
