SDA shop stewards endorse new Kmart proposal
Yesterday in meetings across Australia, Kmart Shop Stewards overwhelming endorsed a proposed EBA package.
Following extensive negotiations between the SDA and the Company, this endorsement is an important step towards securing a new Agreement that will:
- Protect your take-home pay
- Improve penalty rates
- Secure hard-won SDA union conditions
- Ensure a pay rise for all
Additionally, the endorsed Kmart proposal, if voted up by Kmart workers, will include two days paid family and domestic violence leave and a $450 bonus payment for full time employees (pro rata for part time and casual).
What’s next?
The Company and the SDA are now working to finalise the in-principle Agreement. Note that significant IT changes will need to be made to the Company’s payroll system.
Shop Stewards will meet again in July/August for more detailed briefings.
In the months after that, you will have the opportunity to vote on whether or not to accept the proposed Kmart Agreement.
Remember, you have the final say. No new Agreement will be introduced without a vote of Kmart workers.
Before voting begins, the SDA will be out in stores with comprehensive information about the proposed Kmart Agreement so you can find out more and ask any questions you may have.
If there is a majority yes vote, the Kmart Agreement will then go to Fair Work Commission for approval.
The bonus payment of $450 for full time (pro rata for part time and casual) will be payable upon the declaration of a positive vote.
Finalising a new Kmart Agreement is the best way to protect your pay and conditions over the next few years.
We will keep you updated with any progress and dates for voting.
